File Federal Tax Extension
2017 - 2018

With the tax season closing in, we all start to ponder the task of tax preparation. Some of us jump right on it, especially if there is a big tax refund to be had.

Others, like myself, procrastinate day after day until the tax filing deadline rears its ugly head and raises the hair on the back of our necks. Yup, been there before!

Fact is, the tax filing deadline is not all that firm when it comes to tax return preparation and filing. However, That is NOT the case for any amount of taxes you may owe.

Extend Your Tax Filing Deadline To Oct 15

A federal tax extension allows taxpayers to take an additional 6 months to prepare and file their tax return by October 15th.

While this extra time is nice to have for your tax return preparation task, you must pay any taxes owed by the original April 15 tax filing deadline to avoid penalty and interest charges from the IRS.

Fact is, Uncle Sam really does not care to even ask a reason why you are filing for a tax extension. He just grants them to just about anyone that submits tax extension form 4868. If your extension is rejected, the IRS will supply you with a reason, so that you can make corrections and re-file for your federal tax extension to get approved.

Paying Your Taxes Owed On Time

Paying their income taxes is not entirely the problem for most tax filers, still most people fail to prepare their tax return before the April 15 deadline because they don't have the time, or procrastinate too long.

Filing tax extension form 4868 is not a complex task. It takes just minutes to prepare IRS tax extension Form 4868 online and submit it before the 15th of April to be granted your extension.

There are several methods available for paying any taxes owed.

Making Tax Payments Electronically

You can make a payment using the IRS electronic payment options. When you do this, your extension will be automatically
processed when you pay part or all of your estimated income taxes owed electronically.

You can pay online using the Electronic Federal Tax Payment
System, (Direct Pay) by making a direct transfer from your bank
account, or by debit or credit card.

You can also pay by phone using the same Electronic Federal Tax Payment System. For more information, go to irs.gov/payments.

Receiving A Confirmation For Your Payment

Once you have made a payment, you will receive a confirmation number from the IRS, Keep this number for future reference.

Pay Your Taxes By Check Or Money Order

If you choose to pay by check or money order with Form 4868, use the appropriate address for where you live.

  • Do not send cash. Make your check or money order out as payable to the “United States Treasury.”
  • Write your Social Security Number (SSN), and daytime phone number, along with the tax year your payment is for on your check or money order.
  • Do not staple or attach your payment to Form 4868.
  • If you e-file Form 4868 and mail a check or money order to the IRS for payment, use paper Form 4868 as voucher.

Almost every taxpayer in American is eligible to file for a federal tax extension. The process online process works automatically.

Note: You will get an additional six months to file your income tax return, but this grace period, or extension period, does not grant you more time to pay any taxes due.
